October is Black History Month and as the UK's National Cultural Centre for Jazz, we've pulled together an exciting mix of performance and educational events at the Centre in Southend-on-Sea in Essex to reflect jazz's heritage from it origins to its contemporary sound.
We've Live Music Performances celebrating the music of jazz's powerhouse black divas including Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey. We're honouring the passing of sax great Spike Robinson and we'll bring things up-to-date modern take on the jazz 'standards' of Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus and Miles Davies et al alongside some rather cool original compositions.
Our "Listen In Club" will see us play and discuss albums from John Coltrane, Kamasi Washington and Archie Shepp and our Jazz Seminar Session this month will focus on 'Influencers'...how jazz music has helped shaped almost all popular music of today.

The Jazz Centre UK is proud of jazz's heritage and this month we launch our 'umbrella' programme under the banner "From Roots to Right Now" showcasing the art and culture of music in all its forms.
