About the Event
RAY PALLETT is a specialist on the history of the British dance band, the author of two books on the great Al Bowlly, and long-time editor of the dance band specialist magazine Memory Lane.
On Saturday 12th April he will give a presentation; Music Maestro Please which will focus on British dance band history from the post WW1 years. The talk will explore the origins of dance music in the early 1920s and follow its development through that decade.
The 1930s was the heyday of the dance bands and that will be covered including some details about the most important and successful bands of the era.
The 1940s saw the decline of the genre. Ray will examine the causes of that decline.
