Monk's Time: A Presentation by Alex Hearn

Jazz guitarist Alex Hearn will give a presentation in The JCUK Media Centre about the great bop pianist Thelonious Monk, followed by a documentary and a Q&A session. 

Thelonius Monk was an innovator in terms of both performance and composition in jazz music. The documentary Straight No Chaser shows footage of his band’s tour of Europe in Copenhagen 1968, with scenes of Monk backstage revelling in the musicianship of his bandmates, and in NYC’s Columbia studios with his quartet and producer Teo Macero. Alex will give a short talk before the airing of the film and afterwards there will be a demonstration of some of his composition’s with a question and answer seminar. Admission £5.
