About the Event
Adam Glasser piano, chromatic harmonica & Ant Law guitar
Adam Glasser is well known on the London scene for his South African sextet, and today brings the distinctive jazz style of that country to the Jazz Centre in a duo format with top young guitarist Ant Law.
Adam was born in Cambridge while his South African composer father studied in Britain, but grew up in South Africa, absorbing its musical language in Johannesburg’s lively jazz scene. Returning to Europe, he worked alongside SA expatriates like Dudu Pukwana and Pinise Saul, and was for many years MD for the South Arican vocal group the Manhattan Brothers. On both his instruments, he summons the unique voicings and rhythmic inflections of township jazz.
Guitarist Ant Law has visited the JC before as part of Emma Rawicz’s exciting group. Born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, he is now resident in London, playing in a variety of forward-looking bands and touring nationally and internationally. Interestingly, he plays in perfect 4ths tuning, and has written a book about this approach to the guitar.
