Exploring Jazz Today

Our exhibition, Friday, April 6th to Saturday 12th May 2018, will provide direct routes to the personal enjoyment of jazz music which lie both within – and beyond –  standard media outlets. And within our Centre, we will also be celebrating jazz music with an internationally-based series of exhibitions, live presentations, film and five live music events.

It will also contain a presentation of contemporary jazz recording outlets including Hi4Head Label and FMR and weekly film presentations, every Saturday 2pm-4pm.

Free Admission

This project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Southend Borough Council meaning that admission is FREE to the main exhibition and 4 out of our 7 events.

Jazz in Essex

Being the only cultural centre for jazz in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and possibly even the UK that fully supports every aspect of jazz activity, it is our mission to ensure Britain’s past, present and future of jazz stay well ingrained in our culture.

We hold important, national collections including The Humphrey Lyttelton collection, items from Sir John Dankworth, Jimmy Skidmore, Louis Armstrong as well as holding live concerts, helping new artists and holding workshops and masterclasses to nurture new talent.

When you visit our exhibition and if you like what we do, talk to one of our volunteers and they can let you know how you can help us. You can donate to our charity on our website (Donate Now ») or you can sign up for our quarterly newsletter by emailing a request to:
