The Jazz Centre UK grand expansion event
October 20th 2018, 10am – 5pm (Free Admission)
Join in the celebration at The Jazz Centre UK’s biggest event of the year!
We have grown from strength to strength since we opened in 2016. Working
with Southend Council, we are pleased to announce we are expanding our premises to the full bottom floor of the Beecroft Art Gallery. This gives us the room to really show off our heritage collections of British jazz and gives us the room to put on yet more workshops, masterclasses, live music and events for the local Southend-on-sea community, Essex, and UK jazz musicians and fans. From October 20th The Jazz Centre UK will contain a huge Jazz heritage display, a media room containing thousands of vinyl records, a research centre, a live music venue, a jazz café and support for musicians including workshops, masterclasses and networking events.
Exhibitions within this event have been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We thank them for all they have done to support us over the past year with our project.
Please join us on Saturday 20th October for our opening event. The Jazz Centre will be open from 10am – 5pm on the day. Refreshments, Alcoholic beverages and nibbles will be available.
Sir Michael Parkinson will Cut the Ribbon at 1pm
We are completely honoured to have our long-time supporter and patron Sir Michael Parkinson open the event. This is your chance to see Sir Michael off the stage/screen and supporting a genre of music he loves dearly.
Live Music: The Humphrey Lyttleton Band
2pm – 4pm
Our Humphrey Lyttelton collection will be on full display in our new area with even more heritage items on display than ever. To celebrate this and to show off our music venue, we have The Humphrey Lyttelton band playing from 2pm – 4pm alongside the display. The band consists of the remaining original members of the band so, it’s an event not to miss!
Other special guests attending
At 1 pm, the mayor of Southend Cllr Derek Jarvis and the Mayoress, Mrs Valerie Jarvis will arrive to view our exhibition.
